Cargo Axle Load Distribution Calculator
Predict how a point load shifts static reactions across the front and rear axles.
Method and units
For wheelbase W and cargo position x measured rearward from the front axle, added front reaction = cargo × (W−x)/W and added rear reaction = cargo × x/W. Add those reactions to the user-entered empty axle loads.
Worked example
A 200 kg load centered 1.5 m along a 3 m wheelbase adds 100 kg to each axle. With empty loads of 700 kg front and 600 kg rear, modeled totals are 800 kg and 700 kg.
Supported inputs and interpretation
Wheelbase 0.5–10 m; load and axle loads 0–20,000 kg; load position 0–wheelbase. Results are rounded for display only; internal calculations retain full JavaScript precision. Entered measurements and assumptions determine the answer.
References and limitations
The equations here use the stated unit conversions and geometric or accounting relationships; no empirical vehicle limits or manufacturer presets are supplied.
Models one stationary point load on level ground; it excludes cargo footprint, acceleration, suspension, hitch loads, dynamic effects, tire ratings and axle/GVWR limits. Measure actual loaded axle weights and use manufacturer ratings. Geometry does not establish safe loading or permission to use a vehicle.
