EV Charging Taper Timeline
Translate an observed or planned piecewise charging-power profile into energy and elapsed time.
Method and units
For each SOC band, energy = pack capacity × band width ÷ 100. Time = band energy ÷ the entered average power × 60. Only the part of each band between start and end SOC is included.
Worked example
A 60 kWh pack from 20% to 80%, with 100 kW from 20–50% and 60 kW from 50–80%, needs 18 + 18 = 36 kWh and takes 10.8 + 18 = 28.8 minutes.
Supported inputs and interpretation
Capacity 1–300 kWh; SOC 0–100%; bands strictly increase; powers 0.1–500 kW. Results are rounded for display only; internal calculations retain full JavaScript precision. Entered measurements and assumptions determine the answer.
References and limitations
The equations here use the stated unit conversions and geometric or accounting relationships; no empirical vehicle limits or manufacturer presets are supplied.
Power bands are your own measured/assumed averages, not a vehicle or charger specification. This does not model temperature, conditioning, station sharing, losses, taper behavior within a band or the vehicle's charge limits.
