Miles to Kilometers Route Planner

Convert a route, estimate how long it takes at your pace, and see the distance and time a recurring trip adds up to.

Plan a distance in familiar units

A mile is exactly 1.609344 kilometers, but the useful question is usually what that distance means for the way you are traveling. Select an activity and enter a typical average speed to turn a map distance into a practical time estimate.

Formula: kilometers = miles × 1.609344. Estimated time = miles ÷ average speed. Recurring totals multiply each trip by your weekly frequency and planning period.

Worked example: A 10-mile route is 16.09 km. At a 6 mph running pace, it takes about 1 hour 40 minutes; completing it three times each week for four weeks produces 193.12 km of training.

  • Activity: Sets a reasonable starting speed that you can replace with your own average.
  • Trips per week: Turns one route into a commute, training, or errand habit.
  • Planning period: Shows the distance and time commitment across the weeks you choose.

What the result means

The conversion itself is exact: a 10-mile route is 16.09344 km wherever it is measured. The time estimate is intentionally personal. A running pace that is sustainable for a 5K may not be sustainable for a half marathon, and a driving average should include the stops you expect on that route. Use the preset speed as a starting point, then replace it with your typical average.

For training, the planning-period figures make the workload visible before it accumulates. A route run three times a week for eight weeks is 24 outings, not simply one converted distance. For commuting and travel, enter the full round trip if that is the time and distance you need to budget. The calculator does not obtain live directions, so use the distance from your map or route-tracking app rather than a straight-line estimate.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does changing the activity change the converted kilometers? No. Activity changes the suggested speed and time estimate; the mile-to-kilometer conversion stays exact.
  • Why is the map distance different from straight-line distance? A map route follows roads, paths, and turns. Use its route distance here when estimating a real trip.
  • Should I enter one-way or round-trip distance? Enter whichever distance you need to plan. For a daily commute or out-and-back workout, the round trip is usually more useful.
