Multipart Upload Chunk Planner

How many parts, final-part bytes and concurrent buffers does a chosen upload chunk size require?

Measured values and planning assumptions
Supported: 0.001 to 100000000.
Supported: 0.001 to 1000000.
Supported: 1 to 10000; whole numbers.
Supported: 1 to 1000000; whole numbers.

Method, formula and assumptions

Part count = ceil(object size / part size). Final part = object size - (parts - 1) x part size. Buffer bound is concurrent active parts x maximum part payload, capped at the actual part count.

Input definitions and supported units

  • Object size (MiB): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.001 to 100000000; must be positive.
  • Part size (MiB): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.001 to 1000000; must be positive.
  • Concurrent parts: Whole-number count, from 1 to 10000; must be positive.
  • Allowed part count: Whole-number count, from 1 to 1000000; must be positive.

Worked example with answer

1,025 MiB in 64 MiB parts needs 17 parts; the final part is 1 MiB. Four concurrent parts budget 256 MiB of payload buffers and leave 9,983 parts below a 10,000-part limit.

How to use the results

A negative part-count margin flags a limit breach without concealing the needed count. Buffer planning includes payload only, not runtime allocations.

Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.

Limitations and references

Provider limits and minimum final/non-final part sizes must be checked separately. No cloud-specific defaults, multipart overhead or retry copies are included.

The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
