Equipment Downtime Contribution Loss Calculator
Put a planned outage in the same units as the contribution produced per hour. Compare its modeled contribution exposure with a repair quote to support a maintenance discussion.
Method and assumptions
Units not produced = downtime hours × normal throughput per hour. Contribution at risk = units not produced × contribution per unit. Hours equivalent to repair quote = quote ÷ (throughput per hour × contribution per unit), when hourly contribution is positive. This is a scenario comparison, not proof that a repair prevents the outage.
Worked example
Eight hours at 15 units/hour means 120 units not produced. At $20 contribution per unit, $2,400 contribution is at risk. A $2,500 repair quote equals about 8.33 hours of that contribution rate.
How to use the result
Use the hours equivalent to frame what uptime improvement would be needed for the quote to match modeled contribution. This ignores repair effectiveness, spare capacity, backlog recovery, safety impacts, and any output that can be shifted to other equipment.
Input meanings and limits
- Expected downtime hours: Hours of unavailable production in the scenario.
- Normal units per operating hour: Use expected saleable units, not machine nameplate capacity.
- Contribution per unit: Amount per unit after variable costs you choose to deduct.
- Repair or mitigation quote: Entered cost to compare with the downtime scenario.
Inputs accept finite, nonnegative values in the displayed ranges; percentages are bounded to 0–100% (with 99.99% maximum where division by the remaining share is used), and whole-unit or month fields require integers. Currency figures are shown in USD for convenience; enter values in one consistent currency. This is a planning worksheet, not financial, legal, tax, or accounting advice.
