How to use this estimate

Stitch dimensions are chart stitches divided by the measured or labeled fabric count. The entered edge margin applies separately to all four edges. The additional finishing allowance is the total extra amount for the width and, separately, the height; it is added once per dimension, not once per edge. This is a cut-size estimate, not a frame-opening or mat-size specification.

Method

Stitched width = chart width / count; stitched height = chart height / count. Cut width = stitched width + 2 × edge margin + finishing allowance. Cut height uses the same formula with chart height.

Worked example

A 140 × 180 stitch chart on 14-count fabric measures 10 × 12.86 in stitched. Add a 3 in margin on each edge, then add the selected 1 in once to width and once to height (not once per edge): cut size is 17 × 19.86 in.

Assumptions and supported inputs

Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
