How to use this estimate

Fullness is the flat fabric width divided by finished coverage. The entered overlap is added once across the set and then allocated equally; returns are added per panel. This output is a width plan only—it does not calculate pattern matching, railroaded fabric, lining, or vertical drop.

Method

Flat width per panel = (coverage × fullness + overlap) / panel count + return. Add the top and bottom hem allowance to the vertical drop separately; compare panel width with usable fabric width for a rough cut-piece count.

Worked example

For 100 in of coverage, two panels, 2× fullness, a 4 in overlap, and 3 in return per panel, each panel needs 105 in of flat width before checking vertical drop and pattern layout.

Assumptions and supported inputs

Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
