How to use this estimate

The calculator centers the rug in the room and furniture zone for a dimension-only comparison. It reports the resulting edge gaps and rug coverage; door swings, walkways, furniture legs, and irregular rooms need an on-site layout check. A positive result is not a safety or accessibility recommendation.

Method

Centered edge gap = (room dimension - rug dimension) / 2. Remaining uncovered furniture-zone span = zone dimension - rug dimension; negative means the rug exceeds that zone dimension. Compare room gaps with your own entered preference.

Worked example

A 96 × 120 in rug centered in a 144 × 180 in room leaves 24 in side gaps and 30 in end gaps. Compared with a 72 × 96 in furniture zone, it extends 24 in beyond each zone dimension.

Assumptions and supported inputs

Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
