How to use this estimate

Each cushion uses two face pieces and a continuous boxing strip around its perimeter. The reported square footage counts cut-piece area only; it is not a cutting-layout optimizer, and nap direction, pattern matching, zipper extension, corner boxing, and piece placement can require more fabric.

Method

Face cut dimensions add twice the seam allowance to length and width. Boxing length is twice finished length plus width, with a seam allowance at the joining ends; boxing cut width is thickness plus two seam allowances. Total area is two faces plus boxing area per cushion.

Worked example

Two 24 × 20 × 4 in cushions with ½ in seams need 4 face pieces, 89 × 5 in boxing strips, and 20.76 sq ft of minimum cut-piece area.

Assumptions and supported inputs

Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
