Pallet Stretch Wrap Film Length Calculator
How much film is consumed by bottom/top turns and a helical climb with selected overlap?
Method, formula and assumptions
Vertical advance = web width x (1 - overlap). Round height/advance up to complete climb turns. Each helical turn uses sqrt(perimeter^2 + advance^2); fixed turns use perimeter. Divide by the applied/unwound stretch ratio.
Input definitions and supported units
- Load perimeter length side (m): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.01 to 10; must be positive.
- Load perimeter width side (m): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.01 to 10; must be positive.
- Wrapped load height (m): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.01 to 10; must be positive.
- Film web width (m): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.01 to 2; must be positive.
- Vertical overlap (%): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 99; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Total fixed top/bottom turns: Whole-number count, from 0 to 100; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Applied length/unwound length ratio: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 1 to 10; must be positive.
Worked example with answer
A 1.2 x 1 m load, 1.5 m high, with 0.5 m film and 50% overlap advances 0.25 m per turn and needs six climb turns. Four fixed turns give 44.0426 m applied, or 22.0213 m unwound at a 2x ratio.
How to use the results
The stretch input is a length ratio: 2 means 100% elongation, not 200% elongation. Fixed turns are total top plus bottom turns.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
The first-web coverage is conservatively ignored in climb count. Corners, tails, tension and containment force differ in practice; this is not a load-securing specification.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
