Annual Leave Balance Calculator – Vacation Days Left
See what you can take now and what will be left after planned time off later in your leave year.
Track the right balance
Choose how your employer makes leave available. Accrued policies earn days through the year; upfront policies make the full allowance available at the start. Carryover is leave brought in from the previous year, not your current balance, so it is counted only once.
Calculation: Balance now = carryover + entitlement available as of today − leave already taken. Projected balance = carryover + entitlement available on your target date − leave already taken − additional planned leave. A negative balance signals more leave than the model makes available; it is not silently reduced to zero.
Worked example: With 20 days granted upfront, 3 carryover days, and 5 days already taken, 18 days remain now. Plan 4 more days before your target date and the projected balance is 14 days.
For gradual accrual, the allowance is spread evenly across the calendar days of your leave year. The dates include both the start day and the selected balance day. This is a planning model, not a substitute for your employer's policy.
What the result means
The first balance is what the entered policy makes available on the as-of date after leave already taken. The future figure also subtracts all planned leave entered, regardless of when it falls between the as-of and target dates. The checkpoints do not assign planned leave to individual months, so they show balances before those future days are taken.
The leave year ends just before the anniversary of its start date. If your policy uses pay-period accrual, waiting periods, part-time schedules, carryover expiration, caps, or separate leave banks, compare this estimate with your HR record. Public holidays and weekends are not counted automatically; enter leave in the same units your employer uses.

Frequently asked questions
- Where do rollover days go? Enter only unused days carried into this leave year in the carryover field. Check any expiration date or cap with your employer.
- What if all my days are available on day one? Choose the upfront option. If days vest monthly or per pay period, use the evenly earned option as an approximation and check the official balance.
- What if my forecast is negative? Your entered leave exceeds the available entitlement on that date. Some employers permit an advance; others do not.
