Daily Focus Score Calculator – Measure Your Focus
Compare deep work time, fragmented work, and interruptions to estimate a daily focus score.
How this calculator helps
A productive day is not just about working long hours. It is also about how much time you spent in meaningful, uninterrupted work versus reactive tasks and interruptions. This calculator makes those trade-offs visible and checks your deep-work minutes against a goal you set for the day.
Formula: Focus score = ((deep work minutes × 1.5) + (focused task minutes × 1.0) - interruption minutes × 0.75) ÷ total work minutes × 100.
Assumptions: The model treats deep work as the highest-value time and penalizes interruptions. Your deep-work goal is a separate planning benchmark; it does not change the score. Use the score to compare your own days rather than as a clinical or universal productivity rating.
Worked example: 180 deep work minutes, 120 focused task minutes, and 90 interruption minutes over 390 total minutes yields a score of roughly 83 out of 100.
- Deep work: Focused work blocks with minimal interruption.
- Focused tasks: Planned work that still needs attention but is not fully deep work.
- Interruptions: Meetings, messages, notifications, and task switching.
- Deep-work goal: Your personal target for protected focus time that day.
What the result means
The score is designed to help you understand the balance between meaningful work and reactive interruptions. A day with long hours but constant interruptions can produce a lower score than a shorter day with strong deep work blocks. That makes it useful for judging whether your schedule is healthy and strategic, not just busy.
Use it as a trend indicator rather than a strict judgment. The separate goal check shows whether you reached the deep-work target you chose; if not, compare the shortfall with your calendar and consider protecting a specific block tomorrow. If interruptions take up a large part of the day, batching messages or reducing context switches may be more useful than extending work hours.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a good score? There is no universal score threshold because this is a simple weighted model. Comparing your own days with consistent inputs is more useful than judging a single number.
- Can I use this for a week instead of a day? Yes, a weekly average is a useful trend measure for deeper planning.
- Does this include breaks? Breaks are not counted directly, but they can affect the time you have left for deep work.
