Upload Transfer Deadline Calculator
Estimate whether an upload fits a time window.
Method and input definitions
Ideal transfer seconds = file GiB × 8,589,934,592 bits/GiB ÷ (link megabits/second × 1,000,000). Estimated seconds = ideal seconds ÷ efficiency fraction. GiB uses 2³⁰ bytes; Mbps uses 10⁶ bits/s.
Worked example
A 10 GiB file at 100 Mbps and 80% efficiency takes 10 × 8,589,934,592 ÷ 100,000,000 ÷ 0.8 = 1,073.74 seconds, about 17.90 minutes.
Assumptions and limits
Bandwidth is treated as constant and efficiency captures protocol and contention loss. Retries, throttling, and file verification are not separately modeled.
Inputs are bounded to finite values shown in the form. Displayed results are rounded for readability (probability percentages and proportion fractions to four, other measures to two decimal places); whole-count outputs remain exact. A changed field clears a prior result so an outdated estimate is not presented as current.
