Method, formula and assumptions

Heat balance: mass flow = heat watts / (specific heat x temperature rise). Volume flow = mass flow / density x 3600 m3/h. Air properties are entered assumptions, not inferred from altitude or temperature.

Input definitions and supported units

  • Heat entering the air (W): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
  • Allowed air temperature rise (K): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.1 to 100; must be positive.
  • Assumed air density (kg/m3): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0.1 to 10; must be positive.
  • Assumed specific heat (J/kg/K): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 100 to 10000; must be positive.
  • Measured useful airflow (m3/h): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.

Worked example with answer

1,000 W, 10 K rise, 1.2 kg/m3 density and 1,000 J/kg/K specific heat need 0.1 kg/s or 300 m3/h. At 400 m3/h useful airflow, margin is 100 m3/h and use is 75%.

How to use the results

Useful flow means air actually carrying heat through the equipment, not an unloaded fan rating. The temperature rise is an air-path energy balance.

Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.

Limitations and references

Not an HVAC design, equipment temperature prediction or electrical safety check. Recirculation, humidity, fan curves and hot spots require professional measurement and design.

The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
