Roman Shade Fold Spacing Calculator
Calculate evenly spaced horizontal shade folds and a simplified fabric-drop estimate from finished shade dimensions.
How to use this estimate
This is a geometric layout aid: it divides the finished drop into the entered number of equal intervals and adds a user-entered top, hem, and stack allowance to fabric drop. Real shade hardware, battens, headrail, fabric thickness, and fold construction alter spacing; verify a mock-up and manufacturer instructions.
Method
Fold interval = finished drop / number of intervals. Simplified cut drop = finished drop + top allowance + bottom allowance + (number of folds × estimated stacked depth).
Worked example
A 60 in finished drop divided into five intervals gives 12 in spacing. With 3 in top, 4 in hem, and ¾ in estimated stack per fold, the simplified cut drop is 70.75 in.
Assumptions and supported inputs
Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
