ASN Receipt Quantity Tolerance Calculator
Does a received unit count fall inside the supplier tolerance band around an advance shipping notice?
Method, formula and assumptions
Variance = received - ASN expected. The allowed interval is expected x (1 +/- tolerance), rounded inward to whole counts. Case-equivalent shortage divides missing units by case pack.
Input definitions and supported units
- ASN expected units: Whole-number count, from 1 to 1000000000; must be positive.
- Counted received units: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Allowed count variance (%): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 100; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Units per case: Whole-number count, from 1 to 1000000; must be positive.
Worked example with answer
An ASN for 1,000 units, receipt 970 and 2% tolerance gives -30 units or -3%. The permitted whole-count band is 980 to 1,020; shortage is 1.25 case equivalents at 24 units/case.
How to use the results
Inward rounding avoids approving integer counts outside the exact percentage band. Fractional case equivalents expose partial-case shortages.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Tolerance is entered contractual policy, not a recommended acceptance rule. Damage, lot identity, hidden shortages and supplier disputes require separate checks.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
