Cycle Count Inventory Reconciliation Calculator
What count variance remains after accounting for known inbound and outbound timing differences?
Method, formula and assumptions
Expected physical units = book units + unrecorded inbound - outbound still recorded. Variance = physical count - expected; multiply by entered unit carrying value for an implied adjustment.
Input definitions and supported units
- Recorded units at snapshot: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Physically counted units: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Received units missing from snapshot: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Shipped units still in snapshot: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Entered unit carrying value: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
1,000 book units plus 20 unrecorded inbound minus 40 recorded-but-shipped units gives 980 expected. A 970 count produces -10 variance, 10 absolute units and a -50 carrying-value adjustment at 5/unit.
How to use the results
Timing reconciliation prevents every mismatch being labeled shrink. Negative variance is a shortage versus the adjusted snapshot, not proof of its cause.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Does not authorize inventory adjustments or infer theft, damage or audit materiality. Validate movements, count accuracy and the chosen carrying-value convention.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
