Container Free-Time Tier Charge Calculator
What charge follows from entered elapsed days, free time and two daily billing tiers?
Method, formula and assumptions
Paid days = max(0, elapsed days - free days). Fill the first paid tier up to its length, then bill remaining days at the later rate. Multiply per-container charge by identically timed containers.
Input definitions and supported units
- Elapsed billable-calendar days: Whole-number count, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Entered free days: Whole-number count, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- First paid-tier days: Whole-number count, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- First-tier daily charge: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Later-tier daily charge: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Containers on identical timing: Whole-number count, from 0 to 100000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
12 elapsed days minus five free days leaves seven paid days. Three at 50 and four at 100 cost 550/container, or 1,100 for two identically timed containers.
How to use the results
The elapsed-day input must already follow the applicable calendar rule. The free period ends before the first paid-tier day starts.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
No current tariff, legal entitlement or distinction between demurrage and detention is assumed. Weekends, holidays, disputes and gate cutoffs depend on the contract.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
