Paper Run GSM Mass Calculator
What paper mass should a sheet run contribute before packaging and spoilage?
Method, formula and assumptions
Convert millimeter sheet area to square meters by dividing by 1,000,000. Mass per sheet = area x GSM. Multiply by sheets and divide grams by 1,000 for kg, then add packaging.
Input definitions and supported units
- Sheet width (mm): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 1 to 10000; must be positive.
- Sheet height (mm): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 1 to 10000; must be positive.
- Basis mass (g/m2): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 1 to 3000; must be positive.
- Number of sheets: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Packaging added mass (kg): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
320 x 450 mm is 0.144 m2. At 150 g/m2 each sheet weighs 21.6 g; 1,000 sheets weigh 21.6 kg, or 23.6 kg with 2 kg packaging.
How to use the results
This uses sheet count, not printed page count. Two-sided printing does not double paper mass.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Nominal GSM tolerances, coatings, moisture, ink and actual packaging vary. Use measured packed mass for a final freight quote.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
