Volunteer Shift Coverage Calculator
Compare volunteer-hours available with staffing demand.
Method and input definitions
Required volunteer-hours = simultaneous roles × event hours. Available volunteer-hours = volunteers × shift hours each. Coverage ratio and the difference expose a labor-hour surplus or shortfall; they do not prove that every time slot is staffed.
Worked example
Four simultaneous roles for 6 hours require 24 volunteer-hours. Eighteen volunteers covering 6 hours each supply 108 hours, a 4.5× total-hours ratio and 84 surplus hours.
Assumptions and limits
This aggregate comparison assumes volunteer time can be assigned where needed. Breaks, skills, handoffs, and peak-hour coverage are not scheduled.
Inputs are bounded to finite values shown in the form. Displayed results are rounded for readability (probability percentages and proportion fractions to four, other measures to two decimal places); whole-count outputs remain exact. A changed field clears a prior result so an outdated estimate is not presented as current.
