Pool Salt Mass Addition Calculator

Estimate salt mass corresponding to the difference between two measured concentrations and a known pool volume.

Supported: 1 to 1000000.
Supported: 0 to 100000.
Supported: 0 to 100000.

How to use this estimate

This calculator does not recommend a target concentration, chemical product, or addition procedure. It converts a user-entered measured difference into approximate sodium-chloride mass using a mass balance and the stated US-gallon conversion. Actual pool volume, purity, concentration units, circulation, and test accuracy affect outcomes; follow product labeling and qualified pool guidance.

Method

Required NaCl mass = volume × 3.785411784 L/US gal × concentration increase (mg/L) / 1,000,000 mg/kg. A negative concentration difference is reported as zero addition; measurement and product purity are not modeled.

Worked example

For a measured 15,000 US gal pool and user-entered concentration change from 500 to 3,000 ppm, the mass-balance estimate is about 142 kg (313 lb) of NaCl; no target is recommended.

Assumptions and supported inputs

Use measured dimensions and the listed field ranges. Values outside those bounds, missing entries, non-finite numbers, and fractional counts where a whole number is required are rejected. Displayed results are rounded to two decimal places; internal calculations retain full precision. This is a planning estimate, not a substitute for an on-site layout, product instructions, or a qualified trade decision where applicable.
