Shipment Remaining Shelf-Life Calculator
Does a lot still meet the customer's entered remaining-life requirement after staging and transit?
Method, formula and assumptions
Life at receipt = picked remaining life - staging - transit. Deduct the uncertainty reserve, then compare with the customer's requirement. Solve the same balance for maximum transit.
Input definitions and supported units
- Days remaining when picked: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 100000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Staging days before dispatch: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Transit duration (days): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Customer remaining-life requirement (days): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 100000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Additional uncertainty reserve (days): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 10000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
30 days at picking, 2 staging and 5 transit leave 23 days at receipt. A 1-day reserve leaves 22, two days above a 20-day requirement. Maximum transit is 7 days under those assumptions.
How to use the results
Negative remaining life or margin explicitly signals a schedule problem. All durations use the same elapsed-day convention; partial days are allowed.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Not a food, medicine or chemical safety decision. Temperature history, legal expiry handling, calendar conventions and contractual rules must be checked independently.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
