Two-Lot FIFO Issue Cost Calculator
Which quantities and carrying cost remain after issuing units from the older lot first?
Method, formula and assumptions
Issue min(requested, older lot) from the older lot, then the remainder from the newer lot. Multiply issued and remaining quantities by their own lot unit costs.
Input definitions and supported units
- Older lot units: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Older lot unit carrying cost: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Newer lot units: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Newer lot unit carrying cost: Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Units to issue: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
100 older units at 2 and 200 newer units at 3, issuing 150, consumes 100 older and 50 newer. Issue carrying cost is 350; 150 units remain with carrying value 450.
How to use the results
This reconciles two specific inventory cost layers rather than applying an average cost to every unit.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Not a tax, accounting-policy or revenue-recognition recommendation. Returns, landed-cost adjustments and more than two lots are outside the model.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
