Print Finishing Stage Yield Calculator
How many input pieces are required when two sequential finishing steps reject pieces independently?
Method, formula and assumptions
Sequential pass fraction = (1 - reject1) x (1 - reject2), not one minus the sum. Round required good pieces/pass fraction up, then add fixed setup stock outside the yield chain.
Input definitions and supported units
- Finished good pieces required: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- First finishing rejection rate (%): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 99; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Second finishing rejection rate (%): Measured or assumed numerical value, from 0 to 99; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
- Fixed setup pieces consumed before finishing: Whole-number count, from 0 to 1000000; zero is supported where the stated method permits it.
Worked example with answer
1,000 finished pieces with 5% then 2% rejection have 93.1% combined yield. Start 1,075 pieces plus 20 setup pieces, totaling 1,095. Expected rejects are 53.75 then 20.425 pieces.
How to use the results
Reject counts are fractional expectations; purchase/run input is rounded to whole pieces. This separates finishing attrition from fixed press setup.
Results retain full precision internally and display up to four decimal places. Very small nonzero results use scientific notation rather than appearing as zero. Check the labels before comparing values across units.
Limitations and references
Observed rejection rates and correlations can differ by job. It is a deterministic expectation, not a probability guarantee of delivering the target.
The method is a self-contained arithmetic, geometric or explicitly stated mathematical model. There are no imported tariffs, empirical presets or equipment specifications; measured values and allowances must come from your own process.
