Audio Recording Retake Session Time Calculator

Budget recording time for segments and planned takes.

Method and input definitions

Session seconds = segments × (usable seconds per clip × takes per segment + setup seconds per segment). The entered takes include the take you expect to keep.

Worked example

Eight 90-second clips, two takes each, and 15 seconds of setup per segment require 8 × (90 × 2 + 15) = 1,560 seconds, or 26 minutes.

Assumptions and limits

The estimate treats each take as a full clip and each segment as requiring the same setup. Breaks, pickups, file management, and longer failed takes are excluded.

Inputs are bounded to finite values shown in the form. Displayed results are rounded for readability (probability percentages and proportion fractions to four, other measures to two decimal places); whole-count outputs remain exact. A changed field clears a prior result so an outdated estimate is not presented as current.
